Pappbrille presents Pappfliege

PAPPBRILLE PRESENTS PAPPFLIEGE

Cantemir Gheorgiu, social observer and caricaturist of action, is well known by putting a mirror to the world with the help of paper glasses called "Pappbrille". It took drawn-out studies when he discovered that the figure of the "man" was once a highly virtuous one, a gentleman. Also, there was a time when the man was as cool as James Bond. And his recognition feature was a bow tie. Therefore it standed to reason to create a bow tie, which meets the fast moving requirements of nowadays in order to revive the virtues of that classic. He created the "Pappfliege" - a paper bow tie to pin on and to hit the racy zeitgeist. There is no need for extensive tying but more space for design on paper.

By a bow tie you can recognize a real man. As we can guess that identifying feature was invented by a woman. It was not any woman but Madame Pompadour - the inamorata of the Sun King Ludwig XIV. She just channeled her bow, which held together her corselet, into a "necklace". A bow on naked skin - in those days a provocation. The bohemians resumed the modern accessory and showed themselves with a bow on the neck. In those days that was classified as eccentric and provocative facing the noble and aristocratic society.

There are artists, scientists and individualists left to see as the last wearers of bow ties in the contemporary sense. Paper-á-Porter founder Gheorgiu saves the accessory for men with prudent behaviour and spirit through his paper bow tie and revives it as a cult object. Folded in one piece and rolled, it is available in different sizes, shapes and colours. And, as we experienced in history, a woman will probably be the first one who discovers the little gem for herself.

The paper bow tie was shown in a butler-performance in front of the Brandenburg Gate on 7 July 2011 at 3.45 pm within the Berlin Fashion Week. The guerilla tactic was exclusively accompanied by the online magazine Querbinder (German for bow-tie).
