IDEALIST, the first printed contemporary art gallery

Martin Lewicki presented the autonomous work "Idealist" on Saturday, May 7 2011,in Berlin, which was released with the book title "Kampfgeist" (German for "fighting spirit") and contains the works of 15 international young contemporary artists. Lewicki provides a new and unique concept room for exhibition.

The limited edition of 5,000 numbered copies book was written in two and a half years of collaboration between the publisher Martin Lewicki and curator Bimal Saha and is, among the function as a gallery and marketing platform, a valuable art and design object for collectors. "Idealist" is implemented as an independent project in Berlin; the essence of this art platform is the ideals of a young and potent generation full of dreams and visions. A generation striving for freedom, self-expression and diversity in all areas of life, for intercultural exchange. Fighting Spirit "Kampfgeist" is necessary for this generation, which is the title of the first edition and also the basic theme of the artists, especially modeled to fit the two-dimensional platform.

"Berlin is the fountain of youth which has filled the project with life, a good location to ladle, to create something, to produce.", The contact and cooperation with the French artist Ewen Gur, who moved to Berlin last year in order to evolve as an artist, started out in the same way.

In Ewen Gurs’ works we come across an urban world which doesn’t know its limits anymore and drives itself to disaster. His artistic imagination is strongly influenced by street art and comics. His pictures reflect our consumer society in a humorous way, with its faults and absurdities, his naive drawing technique reflects the destructive madness of mankind. His favorite topics include the city and the consumer society. Ewen Gur draws completely at ease, like a child who is fascinated by this vertical excess. But despite his critical view on that society, his work always remains optimistic. He did seven art works for the first edition of the “Idealist” and shows a way to develop a competitive and revolutionary spirit.
