Since the opening show for the launch of the label MATTHIAS MAUS MBRILLIANT in Berlin on 11/11/2011, the designer Matthias Maus has become an integral part of the capital's scene and has captivated its extravagant audience. With 12 semi-annual presentations within the framework of Berlin Fashion Week the established cycle is complete leading to the jubilee edition inspired by the Berlin world clock. For the anniversary, the designer will showcase, among other things, what his MATTHIAS MAUS MBRILLIANT label is best known for in Berlin: clothing for the male phallus, the Matthias Maus hip jewellery.
The MBRILLIANT collections consist of three categories; Red carpet / event fashion, club wear as well as innovative refinements for men. In the last category, the highlights are a Merman outfit as well as a male wedding gown. With these attention grabbers Maus is pushing for equality in male fashion. On top of this, he is raising awareness of the people in our world that do not have the possibility to live a self-determined life.
For the 12th show in six years, 12 hip jewellery pieces will be presented for the first time. Previously, each show featured only one hip jewellery presentation as an eye-catcher, interpretable as a counterpart to the wedding dress with which other designers like to finish their shows.
The theme for the anniversary show draws inspiration from the world clock on Berlin's Alexanderplatz and the music video “Run to the sun” by Erasure, released in 1994 in which the Berlin landmark plays a central role. Maus, who also appeared as a musical performer in his last two shows will present a new and re-interpreted remake of the classic music video at the beginning of the show.
Germany's most successful representative of the Neo-Burlesque scene, Marlene von Steenvag, kicks off the jubilee edition as the opening act leading the audience into a refreshing era of sparkling disco dreams. She has only recently announced her pregnancy and will be taking a break from her trademark performances for the near future. The performance at Matthias Maus's show remains an exception where “the whole beauty of pregnancy will be put in the spotlight to emphasise how glamorous this particular type of femininity is.”
Following the opening act in OBLIGE MBRILLIANT ’S RUN 12 male and 12 female outfits will be showcased. The main inspiration for the collection is the 1976 Hollywood science fiction film “Logan's Run” directed by Michael Anderson starring Farrah Fawcett and Michael York.
Renowned fashion DJ and producer Frank Koopmann will play at the show as well as the after party. Matthias Maus's red carpet will be graced by the young / young at heart party scene as well as German celebrities.
The relatively revealing show will be held out of the public gaze in an exclusive setting in Berlin Mitte. Accreditation for journalists is now open. SAVE THE DATE 05th JULY 2017.
